The Profound Benefits of a Positive Mindset: Talk & Meditation
Online Donation Session via Zoom |  Thursday, October 23rd 4-5 PM
with Julie Shaw, MEd & C-IYAT & Breast Cancer Survivor

“The mind is everything. What you think, you become.”  -The Buddha

Have you ever faced a challenge that made it hard to maintain a positive outlook?
Have you experienced that sense of depression that can come along with illness or injury?
Have you ever followed along with a guided meditation and wondered, “How is this actually
helping me? Am I just wishing for things to be better?”

If so, please join Certified Yoga Therapist & Cancer Survivor, Julie Shaw, for a conversation &
practice demonstrating how:
  • The brain can change as the “nerves that fire together, wire together.”
  • Mindset affects the way the brain works.
  • The intentional practice of positive imagery can affect health in a positive way.
What to Expect:
  • Begin with a short talk about Julie’s decision to stay positive during cancer treatment, and the science of a positive mindset, both of which she learned through studying yoga. There will be time for Q&A, as well.
  • Then, be lead through a positive imagery meditation, offering you the chance to experience this profound practice. It will include simple breath and movement to start, followed by guided relaxation and imagery.
Benefits of this Practice:
When done with intention and clarity, positive imagery can stimulate multiple brain centers. Actively maintaining the mental exercise reinforces nerve pathways in your brain that positively
affect your body’s functions. This can aid the body in healing from illness or injury. Perhaps
more importantly, it offers a way to manage the emotional tides we experience during illness,
connecting us to that which is deep and unchanging within, no matter our external circumstances.

Who Should Attend? This practice is open to all; no prior yoga experience or experience with cancer are needed. Please note, the practice can be done lying down or in a chair. No special clothing or equipment are needed. If you haven't done so already, download Zoom here: https://zoom.us/download
